Caleb had his pulmonary appt this week. We love his pulmonologist and he's actually the only doctor that Caleb doesn't freak out for and will let him do his exam without screaming. I really thought that since he's been doing so well lately (except with eating) that his X-rays would have showed improvement. Not so much. They still look crappy. In a "normal" x-ray, the lungs should look black. Caleb's look very "cloudy" and white all over. His doc had a hard time telling if they were "stable" or worse than his last ones, definitely not better. We'll wait for the official radiologist report and see what he/she thinks. The good news is that Caleb really doesn't have any symptoms (his lungs sound "excellent"), except for his fast breathing, so his doc isn't too concerned. He apologized for not having concrete answers (could still be chronic lung disease from being premature, scar tissue from being premature, mucous, asthma, blah, blah, blah). If it was an infection or asthma making his lungs look so bad, he'd definitely have symptoms. It continues to be a bit frustrating to me because no one knows why his x-rays look so terrible. But, I am glad that it doesn't seem to be affecting him. He has definitely grown since his last x-rays (it was actually amazing to compare his body size in them), and I have always been told that once he starts growing, his lungs will get better. I guess it's like everything else with Caleb, it will happen on his own time. We don't have to go back for 6 months, unless he gets sick. His doc told me that at some point, C will need to have pulmonary function tests to see how well his lungs actually work. But he wants to wait until Caleb's at least 4 years old for that. Until then, we'll just keep praying that his lungs can get their act together and clear up!
