Son of A....

I bet you can guess where this one is going...
I know that Joel has said this *nice* little phrase before, but it's not something that he says often, especially when C is around. When watching the Brewers today, he said "Son of a" but didn't finish the phrase. Without missing a beat, Caleb yelled "Bits!"
UGHHHH! What am I going to do with this kid?!

Bumbo Seat....

As promised, here's a comparison of Caleb and Isaac in the Bumbo seat. Isaac sits so well in it, probably because I have to wedge him in! (Of course I also stuffed him into the same outfit Caleb had on to get the full effect. There was no way he'd fit into the pumpkin one though!) Caleb was 8.5 months old in the first pic, 11 months in the second.

From the Mouth of Caleb...(more added)

Since this is sort of a "journal," I need to write down a few more things Caleb's been saying. He's constantly making me laugh. I am not sure if it's because the way he says his words is so darn cute, or if what he's saying is actually funny. Anyway, these are the examples I can think of right now (and you might not even think any of them are funny!)

Whenever I give him something he really likes (ice for example) he says to me "Whaty day." (lucky day)

If I ask him if he wants to do something and he does, he shouts "O-tay" (Okay..like the little boy on Little Rascals)

Now when we put him to bed, instead of saying goodnight he yells, in a deep voice "Peets" (peace) and tries to hold up the peace sign. (Which looks like the Star Trek sign since he can't hold up 2 fingers yet) Wonder who taught him that?!

He's really into tickling us and will say "Teetow, teetow" (tickle, tickle)

If I was paid a nickle every time he says "Out-tide" (outside) during the day, I would be a very rich lady.

He's been super whiny lately. When I can't stand it anymore, I tell him he needs to go and take a break on his bed until he's done whining. He cries and stomps all the way to his bedroom (goes there by himself), I can hear him throw himself on his bed, and he cries there for about 15 seconds. (Think he's dramatic?!) Then he comes running back yelling, "Done whining" with a huge smile on his face. (This is repeated several times a day.)

Now he thinks he's Macy's master and when she's outside he yells from the door "Mates, Maytee tum, Mates tum. Tum on Mates" (Macy come, come on Mace) Or if she does something he doesn't like he hits her and says "Puntsing Mates." (punching Mace)

After he eats or drinks something he likes (even if it's just water) he says "Whit-tis" (delicious)

If Isaac is fussing when I am trying to do something, I tell Caleb to go and keep Isaac company. He'll go and kneel about 5 feet away from Isaac and yell "Hi, I-Dit, Hi, I-dit."

I took him to his first gymnastics class and he LOVED IT! He keeps asking to go back to "Nat-tits."

Joel showed him how to make a "diving catch" when playing baseball. Caleb takes the ball, puts it into his glove and then sets it on the floor. Then he lays down on his stomach, sprawled out (not even by his glove) and yells "Dybing tets!"

Whenever Joel or I get up from a chair or the couch (even the floor), Caleb will immediately run to that spot and sit there. He says "Mommy's tot" (Mommy's spot) Or "Daddy's tot."

When I put a blanket on the floor for Isaac, Caleb shouts "Tummy time."

I think he has a little OCD because he can't stand it if the corner of a rug/blanket on the floor is folded up. He'll fix it and say "Daya betta." (There, better.)

When he thinks something's funny he hits his forehead with his hand and says "Oh deez!" (oh geez)

When he's "thinking" about something he wants he puts his finger by his mouth and says, "Hmmmmmmm."

That's all I can think of right now, but I will add more when I remember them. I probably sound like a broken record, but can you believe how much he's talking?!

Friday Fun

Caleb showing off his new haircut and actually smiling:

Mowing the lawn in a very fashionable outfit he chose today...yes, those are supposed to be shorts! (and refusing to smile)

Picked some flowers:

Isaac was content sitting in his car seat outside:

Best part of the day. Caleb ate Gerber diced pears (actually chewed and swallowed them without gagging or vomiting. I think this is probably the 4th time in his life that he willingly ate fruit.)

Second best part of the day:

We also went to Night at the Zoo (The zoo is open for "members only" a few evenings during the summer. It's a lot of fun...music, food, drinks, and of course the animals!) Can you tell they didn't want to stop and have their picture taken?! (And Caleb is still wearing his fashion statement because when I tried to change him, he had a complete meltdown.)

Growing Up (4 months old)

Isaac's new buddy:
I cannot believe how fast Isaac is growing up. It seems like he's doing something new everyday. He can push up off his chest with his arms straight and has even rolled over a couple times from his stomach to his back. When he's on his back, he can roll to his side and pick up a toy and roll back to his back and will chew on it. (I am sure most 4 month olds can probably do this, but it's amazing to me!) Unlike his brother, he'll "play" by himself for long periods of time. He is obsessed with his blanket and will pull it up over his face and take it off, playing peek-a-boo with himself. He loves to laugh especially when we help him clap his hands. It's so cute. Whenever he sees Caleb, his face lights up and he gets a huge smile on his face. He's also sleeping in his own room now. (I know, huge step for me, huh?!) He has stopped sleeping through the night, but I am sure it's because he's adjusting to it. He wakes up "talking" to his mobile and will usually fall back to sleep by himself. He also wakes up to eat at some point during the night. I don't mind though because I enjoy the snuggle time and it's the only time he'll actually let me breastfeed him.
He's getting SO big too. He's into some 12 month clothes (onesies) because he's so long. I got out Caleb's bumbo seat and I will have to take pictures of Isaac in it. It's so funny because he looks like I have to stuff him in it since he's so chubby. And when I try to get him out, his little bum gets stuck! Caleb actually fits better in it! And of course, whenever Isaac is in it, all I hear is "Haybee's turn, Haybee's turn."
I took Isaac to church on Sunday and he was so well behaved. (We usually go as a family, but Caleb is horrible in church and we still haven't gotten up the courage to put him in the nursery!)An older woman came up to me afterwards and told me "You have the best baby I have ever seen. I am about to be a great-grandma for the 5th time and I hope that the baby is as good as yours. I can't believe he didn't even make a peep! I can tell he likes music (he was kicking his legs during the songs). And that smile, boy oh boy he's so cute..." She went on and on. I have no idea where she was sitting, but I am pretty sure she wasn't paying attention to our pastor! And she was totally right, we are very blessed with this amazing little guy!

Sassy

Remember when I was so worried that Caleb would never talk? Remember when I couldn't wait until he was talking? Well, now the kid doesn't shut up. (Of course I am thrilled!!) He talks all day long. Can't always understand what he's saying, but he definitely knows what he's talking about and gets mad when we don't. He's also becoming very sassy. These are the examples that come to mind from this week. Instead of just saying "no" when he doesn't want to do something, he says "no way." Caleb, are you ready to eat? "No way." Caleb, it's time to go inside now "No way." It was cute at first, now it's getting a little old! The other thing he's been doing is when he notices that Isaac is looking at him or smiling in his direction, he'll scoop up whatever he's playing with and take off running yelling "Wun away." (run away) And now sometimes when he's playing in his room and I go in there to play with him, he tells me "No mama. OUT!" The zoo has a playground for toddlers that Caleb likes to play on. There was a boy (too old to be on that playground)sitting at the table in the fort. Caleb put his hand on the table and the boy told him not to touch it. Well, my sassy little man kept putting his hand on it and then taking it off (while smiling of course) just to irritate the boy. And at the mall this week we walked past the lingerie department in a store, he pointed at the bras and said, "Boobies." When I told him he was right, but to stop saying that, he yelled "Boobies! Boobies! Boobies!," with his little devil grin on his face.
I took him to get his pictures taken last week and this is what he'd do when we told him to smile: I was actually going to order one of them because that's how he smiles these days. He learned it from one of his Sesame Street DVDs where they sing "If you're happy and you know it, make a funny face." He did this in about 99% of the pictures. He had the photographer sweating! I didn't have any trouble picking out which pictures to order because this was the only one (out of about 40) that he actually had his "normal" smile in:

Conversation with Caleb

Joel worked late tonight and I was trying to put Caleb to bed when he got home. Joel was on the phone when he walked in and this is the conversation with Caleb that followed:

Me: Daddy's being loud, huh?
Caleb: Ut, up Doe (Shut up, Joel)
M: What did you say?
C: Ut, up Doe.
M: Did you just tell your daddy to shut up?
C: Hesh (yes)
M: Well, that's not nice Caleb.
C: Too woud (loud)
M: I know he's being loud, but it's not nice to say shut up. Should we go and tell him he's being too loud?
C: Hesh
C: (to Joel who's still on the phone): Too woud, daddy. Too woud.
Joel: Sorry Caleb. I didn't mean to be loud.
C: Darn it, daddy. Grrrrrr. Darn it. (As he's slapping his own thigh)

It seems like yesterday that he was just saying his first words, and now he's calling his dad by his first name and telling him to shut up! I guess we're really going to have to watch what we say now! What a little stinker. I cannot get over how much he's changed in the past month! Maybe he just realized that he's 2.5 years old now and was "supposed to catch up by the time he was 2." (For those of you who don't know, there's a "myth" that premature babies will catch up to their peers developmentally by the time they turn 2 years old.) Anyway, I don't care why he's suddenly making leaps and bounds with his development...I am just thrilled that he's doing so great! It's just another example of how he's a little walking, (and now) talking miracle!

Some more cuteness

(You'll have to turn off the other music. Look on the side of your screen in the music box and press pause)

I have been trying to teach Caleb the animal sounds FOREVER. Over a year, at least. I remember his speech therapist telling me last year to take him to the zoo and he'd pick them up for sure...right. We were at the zoo at least once a week and while he learned to sign the names of the animals, he wouldn't even try to make their sounds. I have always known he's a bright kid. He's been able to identify his colors, shapes and letters by pointing long before he started to talk. I don't know why, but it drove me crazy that he wouldn't/couldn't make the animal sounds. His favorite things used to be his animal books and puzzles. He'd make me read the books over and over, and I always made each and every sound. It's almost like he's been storing all of this information in his little head and now he's finally able to express himself. He's going through a verbal "explosion" right now...he's saying his colors, letters, shapes and ANIMAL SOUNDS!! Yahooooo! Our little boy is catching up!!
This is just a few of the animals he knows, but check this out:

Monday Musings

He's getting his appetite back....
Never mind the fact that this was his breakfast and all he did was lick the cheese off the chips and put them back!

Unabomber Jr:

Getting a little golf in. (And yes, he picked his clothes today!)

Not a fan of the grass! Still won't touch it, even though he wanted to sit down!

Our happy boy. He's going to have scars from scratching his face so much. No matter how short his nails are, he finds a way to draw blood!

On the move already! I put him in the middle of the mat and left the room for less than a minute. Look at his face..he knew he was caught in the act!
