Pulmonology appointment

(Caleb would not let me take his picture this week. Although he did let me tape him dancing, so I will let it slide this time!)

Caleb had his pulmonology appointment yesterday. They wanted him to do a modified pulmonary function test, which basically tells them how well his lungs work. Of course he was freaked out and was refusing to do it. But, then he heard that there was a prize involved and decided he'd give it a try. He had to put a big tube in his mouth and breath in and out on command. (and then continue to breathe out until the nurse said stop. Now that's a lot of directions to follow to a 3 year old!) The tube was big for my big mouth, so imagine it in his tiny little one. He kept putting his tongue in the tube, and would gag really bad when the nurse tried to put the tube on top of his tongue. So the results weren't really accurate, but they were impressed with some of the breaths he was able to take correctly. He will have another one done at his next visit. His oxygen level was 97%, which is pretty good for him as well.

His chest x-ray showed no improvement from the one taken a year ago. His lungs are still pretty white looking (instead of black like they should be), but his doc still isn't concerned about it. They still aren't sure what is causing them to look so crappy. Especially since he looks so good and his lungs continue to sound great. It could continue to be chronic lung disease or could be scarring. They always told me that as he got bigger, he'd outgrow both of these things since he is still developing new lung tissue. Obviously this isn't the case. His doc does want him to have another CT scan done at some point, but he didn't think it needs to be done urgently.

I did get a chance to speak with the social worker about the medication mess. She gave me a couple things to try and vowed that she'd help me if I don't get anywhere. So far I am 0/1 with the things she suggested.

Since his appointment, he's been clipping a kitchen timer that has a clothespin like clip on it to his finger, and saying it's his oxygen checker. Think he's been to a few doc appts in his life?!
