Caleb rarely shows the sad emotion. You can tell when he's happy/excited, but he rarely "really" gets sad. Yes, he does cry once in a while (rarely), but it's usually because he got a time out, or gets hurt and it lasts for a second or two before he's thinking about something else. Once in a while he'll cry because we tell him "no" when he asks for something or tell him he can't do something, but again it's for a second and he's on to the next thing.
Larry (his fish) died yesterday. After I told him, he sobbed and sobbed. He couldn't catch his breath he was crying so hard. In between sobs, he kept saying "He was my best friend." He was SO sad. It made me sad to see him hurt so much, but it also made me feel a little better to see that he CAN feel sad/hurt. To make matters worse, Isaac kept telling him all day "Larry is dead. My fish died a long time ago. But Larry is dead today." That set Caleb off every.single.time.
I know he did really like his fish, but to say that it was his best friend was probably being a little dramatic. Recently he had started playing music for his beloved pet. Poor Larry...it was very loud, right next to his bowl and the same song over and over again. Maybe the bass from the music shook his little brain (do fish have brains??) too much. Who knows. But now we need to get Caleb a new best friend:)
